Nondiscrimination Policy
Comover is dedicated to building a trusted professional community by fostering meaningful connections among people from all backgrounds. Our goal is to create a diverse network that draws together individuals of different cultures, values, and norms.
Comover is committed to building a platform where people from every background feel welcome and respected. This commitment rests on two foundational principles that apply to both Hosts and Bookers: inclusion and respect. Our shared commitment to these principles enables everyone in our community to feel welcome, no matter who they are, where they come from, how they worship, or whom they love.
While we do not believe that one company can mandate harmony, we do believe that the Comover community can promote empathy and understanding. We are all committed to doing everything we can to help eliminate all forms of unlawful bias, discrimination, and intolerance from our platform. To that end, all of us—Comover employees, Hosts, and Bookers alike—agree to act in accordance with this policy to strengthen our community.
- Inclusion – We welcome people of all backgrounds with authenticity and open minds. Joining Comover, as a Host or Booker, means becoming part of a community of inclusion. Bias, prejudice, racism, and hatred have no place on our platform or in our community. While Hosts are required to follow all applicable laws that prohibit discrimination, we commit to do more than comply with the minimum legal requirements.
- Respect – We are respectful of each other in our interactions. Comover appreciates that local laws and cultural norms vary around the world and expects Hosts and Bookers to abide by local laws and to engage with each other respectfully, even when views may not reflect their own beliefs.
Specific Guidance for Hosts
Guided by these principles, our Host community will follow these rules when considering and hosting Bookers:
Race, Color, Ethnicity, National Origin, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, or Marital Status
- Comover Hosts may not:
- Decline a booking based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.
- Impose any different terms or conditions based on these factors.
- Post any Spot page or make any statement that discourages or indicates a preference for or against any Booker on account of these factors.
Gender
- Comover Hosts may:
- Make a Spot available to Bookers of the Host’s gender and not others, where the Host shares common workspaces (e.g., a shared office or studio) with the Booker.
Age and Familial Status
- Comover Hosts may not:
- Impose any different terms or conditions or decline a booking based on the Booker’s age or familial status, where prohibited by law.
- Comover Hosts may:
- Provide factually accurate information about their Spot’s features (or lack of them) that could make it unsafe or unsuitable for people of a certain age.
Disability
- Comover Hosts may not:
- Decline a Booker based on any actual or perceived disability.
- Impose any different terms or conditions based on the fact that the Booker has a disability.
- Substitute their own judgment for that of the prospective Booker about whether a Spot meets their needs.
- Inquire about the existence or severity of a Booker’s disability. However, if a potential Booker raises their disability, a Host may and should discuss with them whether the Spot meets their needs.
- Prohibit or limit the use of mobility devices.
- Charge more in fees for Bookers with disabilities, including for service animals.
- Post any Spot page or make any statement that discourages a Booker on account of a disability.
- Refuse to provide reasonable accommodations, including flexibility with Spot rules, such as using an available parking space near the entrance.
- Comover Hosts may:
- Provide factually accurate information about the Spot’s accessibility features (or lack thereof), allowing Bookers with disabilities to assess for themselves whether the Spot is appropriate for their individual needs.
When Bookers are turned down. While a Host may have lawful and legitimate reasons for turning down a potential Booker, it may cause that person to feel unwelcome. Hosts should make every effort to be welcoming to Bookers of all backgrounds. Hosts who demonstrate a pattern of rejecting Bookers from a protected class (even while articulating legitimate reasons) undermine the strength of our community, and Comover may suspend Hosts who have demonstrated such a pattern from the platform.
What happens when a Host does not comply with our policies in this area?
If a particular Spot page contains language contrary to this nondiscrimination policy, the Host will be asked to remove the language and affirm their understanding and intent to comply with this policy. Comover may also, in its discretion, take steps up to and including suspending the Host from the platform.
If a Host improperly rejects Bookers on the basis of a protected class, or uses language demonstrating that their actions were motivated by factors prohibited by this policy, Comover will take steps to enforce this policy, up to and including suspending the Host from the platform.
As our community grows, we will continue to ensure that our policies and practices align with our goal: to ensure that Bookers and Hosts feel welcome and respected in all of their interactions using the Comover platform.
